What’s Next? - Discerning your Call

A retreat for seminarians or recent seminary grads considering the next steps in their vocation

August 15-20, 2024

Riverview Retreat Center/Three Sisters Wilderness

Eugene, OR

You have heard the “call,” you have responded and gone to seminary, and now you may be wondering “what’s next?” Perhaps you are considering parish-based ministry, or community development, or advocacy work, or something else that has yet to be named and articulated. Whether graduation is months or years away, or if you graduated recently (in the last 1-3 years), taking time to stop and listen and discern can help get a sense of focus and direction for those next steps in ministry.

With the help of a grant from the Palmer Foundation, Wilderness Journeys is offering a week-long retreat for seminarians to discern and consider those next steps. Take some time to step away, pray, listen, and consider what your next steps might be. Half of our time will be reflecting at a retreat center with individual and group work, and the other half of the week we will be backpacking (three days, two nights) in the Oregon wilderness.

Through a combination of spiritual direction (led by Jeff Savage), community building, and backpacking (led by Jonathan Malone), you will be given space and guidance to discern what your “next step” might be.

Cost - $500 (covers lodging, food, gear, leadership, and any other expenses for the week - some funding is available to help cover transportation) to Oregon

This event is, in part, funded by a Palmer Grant through American Baptist Churches, USA
